Introducing: Ms Juliana Lau
Juliana
is currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts in Music Program at the University
of Calgary. Some of her courses include
Music Theory, Music History, Musicianship, Conducting and teaching music
in both Elementary and Junior High Schools. Juliana began studying piano
at the age of 5. She has never stopped playing classical and
popular music as well as sacred church pieces. Juliana has also
been studying voice with Gemira McClary for the past few years. Juliana
has always been involved in school choirs including the University
Chorus. She is deeply involved at her church choir and assumes a
leadership role through conducting and organizing the church choirs for
various musical activities and events. She is currently the Artistic
Director for both the Youth Choir and the Young Adult Choir for her
church. As the Artistic Director, she selects the repertoire for both
choirs, vocally trains them to sing their pieces, and works intimately with
every individual to create the perfect sound for each piece. On top of preparing
for mass pieces, she also helps coordinate volunteer performances at
Senior Homes annually during Christmas and once a year at Aspen Lodge. They also perform at various occasions hosted
by the church throughout the year. Juliana has also started the Annual
Year End Concert for the different Choirs and Bands at the church to
showcase their talents and abilities to sing pieces other than church
music.
Juliana understands
the importance of volunteering and supporting the Calgary Music
Community. To this end, she volunteers annually at the APTA (Alberta
Piano Teachers Association) Music festival and at the NATS (National
Association for Teachers of Singing) Festival. Last year, Juliana sang
in the NATS Festival and won 2nd place.
Juliana loves
working with children and this is reflected not only in her love of
teaching children music, but also through her role, since 2008, as a certified
Child Care Assistant in a Government Accredited Before and After School Program.
