Gloria Chu, a member of the Alberta Registered Music Teachers’ Association, is a dedicated musician who holds two degrees from the University of Calgary – Bachelor of Music (Piano Performance with Distinction) and Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting). Through the Royal Conservatory of Music she has achieved two diplomas including A.R.C.T. Piano Performance and A.R.C.T. Piano Teacher. In addition, she has received certification for the second teacher level of the Yamaha Music program. Gloria’s musical studies include piano, vocal, violin, composition, music theory and music history.
Her music study includes both nationally and abroad in Europe. She was awarded the 2007 Leonard Leacock Medal in contemporary piano music and received the Royal Conservatory of Music 2007 Silver Medal Award (Alberta) and Gold Medal (Calgary) for her vocal studies. In 2007 she was awarded the Eileen & Elgar Higgin Memorial Scholarship for her vocal achievements. Throughout 2006 and 2007 several of her original compositional works were performed in Calgary including ensembles and solos for vocal, piano and strings.
Gloria has performed abroad as a soloist and a chamber member in France, New York’s Carnegie Hall and San Diego. As a chamber musician, Gloria has performed as concertmaster of the Mount Royal Intermediate Orchestra, Concert Choirs, University of Calgary Chorus, New Music Ensemble, Women’s Choir and the Chamber Music Ensemble of the University of Calgary.
Gloria has numerous students benefiting from her creative teaching methods. Through examinations, many successful students receive first class honors with distinctions and are recipients of the Silver Medal Award having achieved the highest grades in the province of Alberta, while others receive gold medals and scholarships in competitions and examinations.
