Junior Original Concert

What is the Junior Original Concert or JOC?

The Junior Original Concert (JOC) is a performance which showcases the compositions of Yamaha Music students. Yamaha Music programs encourage all students to show their creativity through improvisations and compositions.

Over the years, JOC applications have sky-rocketed with more than 45,000 submissions each year!

What happens after the MUSICA ACADEMY JOC?

Students who choose to perform their compositions and are between the ages of 8-14 will have their performance videotaped. Once the video is edited, we will mail it to Yamaha Canada where the selection process will begin for the National Junior Originals Concert.

Start today by simply expressing your interest to your teacher and they will guide you to creating their first composition!

Check out this video of 13 year old Jacky Wong performing his composition Horizon at the 2013 Regional JOC in Vancouver. (Also shown on our home page's video).

"During the musical summer camp, I gained a lot of experience being a leader that I did not have before.  With Ms. Toshi, I was introduced to new voice techniques alongside the children.  I believe that her vocal coaching was very beneficial for the kids who had an interest in singing because she made the learning experience fun.  In addition, I found helping the children to take a lot of energy, but it was enjoyable to see them learn on the keyboard, act and sing.  Overall, I am glad that I volunterred at the camp as it was profitable experience.

"My experience volunteering was a really good learning experience.  Miss Toshi was very supportive and helped me become more confident around the children.  She also helped me understand the best way to help a child who was not so confident of themselves.  If I could, I would definitely volunteer again.  Volunterring has been a very fun experience while learning a thing or two along the way."
