Anna is an experienced piano and vocal instructor who has taught children and adults throughout her career. After graduating from the Conservatory with honors, she earned her PhD in Musical Arts in 2017 and has contributed to the field as a speaker at international pedagogy conferences and author of several publications on music history and vocal methodology.

A professional opera singer, Anna has been a lead soloist with the Kharkov Opera and Ballet Theatre since 2013, toured extensively across Europe, and is a two-time international opera competition winner. She is currently a member of the Calgary Opera chorus and is delighted to be part of the musical team at Yamaha Musica Academy.

Ben has been teaching guitar at Yamaha Musica Academy since 2008 and brings extensive experience as both an educator and musician. He earned Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Education degrees from the University of Calgary before teaching Music and Physical Education with the Calgary Board of Education. 

After completing his MBA at the University of Victoria, he worked with the Victoria Symphony as Senior Community Relations Officer, leading education, outreach, and community programs while continuing to teach guitar. 

Ben currently teaches at Connect Charter School and remains a dedicated and experienced guitar instructor at Yamaha Musica Academy.

Caroline is a passionate pianist and dedicated teacher who has been playing piano for 19 years and teaching since 2021. She earned her RCM ARCT in Piano in 2015 and has experience teaching students of all ages and skill levels, with a particular strength in engaging young children. As both a performer and educator, she is committed to building strong musical foundations while helping each student achieve their individual goals and develop a lifelong love of music. Caroline is excited to teach the Yamaha curriculum and inspire the next generation of musicians at Yamaha Musica Academy.

Javier Carril earned his Bachelor’s degree in Music from the National Autonomous University of Mexico in 2011 and a Master’s in Musicology from the University of Calgary in 2019. A classically trained pianist, he has performed as both a soloist and accompanist and has been part of the Yamaha Music Education System since 2010, teaching in Mexico City and Calgary. Javier has experience working with students of all ages and is known for his patient, analytical teaching style, helping students overcome technical challenges while encouraging them to explore a wide range of musical genres, including classical, pop, and film music.

Juan Cacho is a versatile multi-instrumentalist specializing in guitar, bass, and drums. He earned a Bachelor of Music from the University of Calgary, where he studied bass trombone and performed with the university’s Orchestra, Jazz Orchestra, and Wind Ensemble. An active performer in Calgary’s music scene, Juan plays drums, guitar, and bass with a variety of bands and artists and also creates original music under the stage name Tobi Sinclair. Passionate about music education, he leads workshops and open jam sessions, inspiring students through lessons in music theory, improvisation, and performance.

Katelyn began learning piano at Yamaha when she was 6 at Musica Academy and has continued her journey with The Royal Conservatory of Music, earning First Class Honours in 2022. She has been teaching private lessons since then.

She is a strong performer and teacher, with backgrounds in dance, singing, music writing, and teaching group martial arts lessons. Her education is still ongoing with RCM for Grade 10 Piano, alongside a Kinesiology Degree at the University of Calgary.

Katelyn is very patient, positive, creative, and well articulated in English and French, allowing her to create and individualize fun approaches to developing musical foundations and lifelong passion, and brings an excitement and eagerness to teach at the school where she started her musical journey. 

Looi is the Director of Musica Academy and a seasoned pianist, trumpeter, educator, and music school leader with over two decades of experience.

Since 2001, she has operated music studios in Calgary and is passionate about fostering excellence in music education through teaching, adjudicating, festivals, summer camps, and teacher mentorship. She founded TeachMusic.Academy to support the professional development of music educators and has shared her expertise through educational writing and presentations, including a career seminar for musicians at the University of Calgary.

Deeply involved in Calgary’s arts community, Looi regularly supports local performances, collaborates with arts organizations, and continues to inspire students, teachers, and musicians through her leadership and commitment to music education.

Negin is a certified Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) piano instructor who developed a lifelong passion for music after growing up in an artistic family. With several years of experience teaching piano and music theory in both academy and private settings, she works with students of all ages and skill levels, tailoring lessons to each individual's learning style and goals. Negin is dedicated to helping students build technical skills, artistic expression, and a lasting love of music. Beyond the studio, she is an active member of Calgary's arts community, regularly volunteering as a pianist at senior centres and community events.

Sherwinn has been immersed in music since the age of two, developing skills in piano, choir, flute, and ukulele while fostering a deep appreciation for music as a universal form of expression. She earned her Bachelor of Education from the University of Calgary with a focus on music and completed the TeachMusic.Academy student-teacher program under the mentorship of Looi Tan. A former Musica Academy student herself, Sherwinn is excited to return as an instructor, inspiring the next generation of young musicians through her passion for music and education.

Tam brings a unique approach to music education by combining his background in STEM with his passion for creative expression. As an Astrophysics student at the University of Calgary, he applies the values of structure, problem-solving, and discipline to his teaching while creating a supportive and enjoyable learning environment. With experience in classical piano, jazz performance, and academic tutoring, Tam tailors lessons to each student’s goals, whether preparing for exams or exploring music for personal enjoyment. As a participant in the Student Teacher Program under the guidance of Looi Tan, Tam is excited to inspire students at Musica Academy by building their confidence, creativity, and lifelong appreciation for music.

Typhen Chan began playing the violin at age five, studying under Jeremy van Diemen and Professor William van der Sloot while participating in Mount Royal University's Advanced Performance Program (APP). Over thirteen years of performing, he has earned local, provincial, and national acclaim, including two Canadian Music Competition (CMC) titles, an Alberta Music Festival Association scholarship, and a 2019 victory at the Rotary Calgary Concerto Competition, where he performed Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto with the Calgary Civic Symphony. He also won the Calgary Youth Orchestra’s Frank Simpson Concerto Competition, performing Paganini’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in 2022. Beyond his competitive success, Chan actively engages in local community outreach through programs like Back to Bach, enjoys arranging music, swimming, traveling, and playing guitar and piano, and is currently a faculty member at Musica Academy.
